Members and Athletes. The athletes and members who participate come from all walks of life and all backgrounds. Most newcomers to the sport already have backgrounds in swimming, running or pony clubs. They come to Pentathlon to develop more skills and to obtain experience in a larger range of activities. This allows them to develop their abilities to gain more satisfaction from their involvement. Swimming and running produces very able people who are ready to try their hand at running and shooting. Pony club members already experience tetrathlons that include riding but not fencing. This route has produced some outstanding competitors in Pentathlon some of whom, from this Region, have gone onto World Championship and World Cup medals.
