GLL Foundation Announcement

GLL Sport Foundation Applications Open Soon

Dear Sporting Partner

Sally Gunnell, OBE and GLL Sport Foundation Patron: “I know from personal experience that many young athletes struggle to meet the costs associated with increasing standards of competition. This affects not only the need for specialist sporting equipment, but also travel costs needed to be competitive and attend events”. “In my role as Patron I have been able to champion the need for positive and tangible support directly to young sporting talent”. Since the Foundation was launched through your support we have supported over 2000 athletes at a combined value of over £1.5 million, making it one of the largest independent athlete support programmes in the UK. "Young people need positive support and sport needs rising talent to keep Britain improving on a world stage at London 2012 and beyond. With your continued support we can make a positive contribution on both agendas". In 2012 the Foundation will significantly impact the Games and importantly its legacy, we aim to ensure maximum exposure and impact of the Foundation through your support in reaching out to South England sports men and women.

Sealions & Whitgift Pentathlon / Tetrathlon 8/9 October 2011

This successful competition ran its 31st incarnation over the weekend. Apart from a shower to greet us on Sunday morning the weather was kind. The organisation was again led by Sarah Langridge to whom we are all indebted for maintaining the tradition of this fine competition. Big thanks you to Sarah. She is supported by enthusiastic and talented athletes, with their supporters and the many volunteers. Sealions MPC extends a very sincere thanks to all. It was nice to see John Felix and Doreen Dew present throughout the whole weekend. John and Doreen wore many hats over the years, during 70s and 80s to keep the MPAGB on track. During their reign they helped enormously to transform Pentathlon from a largely military past ito a full Regional structure where all age groups could participate at all levels. MPAGB is indeed indebted to John and Doreen to whom we extend our thanks.

This competition thankfully attracts past athletes to help the organisation. It was nice to see Steph Cook MBE, Emily Bright, Sarah Langridge and Laura Gomersall all working hard and at one point standing in a line putting shoot targets together. Thank you and long may it continue.

The results for the competition may be found here.
