How does triathlon relay work?
How does the triathlon relay work? One person does the swim, one person does the bike leg and one person does the run. You can do a relay with two people so one person can do two of the legs. Or you can do a relay with a three-person team and each person will do one part of the race.
What are mixed relays?
Mixed Team Relay is a team based event consisting of 2 pro men and 2 pro women per team. Each athlete completes a super sprint triathlon circuit before tagging their team mate. First team to have all four athletes complete the circuit wins the race.

Following the 1st leg, the remaining 2nd, 3rd, and 4th legs will exchange the baton within the designated exchange zone—with the outgoing runner continuing to run their 400 meter leg.

Having been trialled at the World Relays in Nassau in 2017 and at a number of other continental championships and Nitro Athletics meetings, the mixed relay officially made its debut at a major global competition at the IAAF World Championships in Doha on 28 and 29 September 2019.
