- Here’s the conundrum: The Olympic distance in triathlon is a .9-mile swim, a 24.8-mile draft-legal bike leg and a 6.2-mile run. The distance I’m most proficient in is the Half Ironman, which is double the Olympic distances — more geared toward endurance than speed, and with a non-drafting bike leg.
The length of an Olympic distance triathlon is a 0.93-mile (1.5-kilometer) swim, 24.8-mile (40-kilometer) bike, and 6.2-mile (10-kilometer) run. Olympic triathlon is exactly double the distance of a sprint triathlon.
