What is a good triathlon time for a beginner?
Amateur athletes should focus on keeping their first transition under 1:30 and their second transition under 1:00. Their swim time should be less than 35 minutes, their bike time less than an hour and 35 minutes, and their run time should be less than 50 minutes. With those times, they would break three hours!

40k is a little shorter than a 25 mile tt so around an hour would be pretty good. Check out the draft rules and get clip-on tri-bars if appropriate – they can make a huge difference.
How long should a 1500m swim take?
You basically go for as many laps as you can in 30 min. While there is a debate on the true value of this swim as it’s directed by most non-TI masters coaches, if you swim at a pace of 2:00 per 100m, then you should make 1500m in 30 min.
How old is Duffy?
Most events provide you with a swim cap but you should buy one for training beforehand. If you are more serious then a Swim Skin is highly recommended. For open water swims, the use of a triathlon wetsuit is usually mandatory. Under the wetsuit you would wear the tri suit or tri top & shorts.
What is a 1K run in miles?
The “K” in 1K refers to “kilometer” which can also be written as “km.” The prefix kilo- means 1000, therefore a 1 kilo-meter race is 1000 meters. These 1000 meters are also equivalent to 0.62 miles or 1094 yards. Therefore, a 1K race is equal to 1 kilometer or 0.62 miles.
What is considered a long run?
The long run is generally anything from 5 to 25 miles and sometimes beyond. Typically if you are training for a marathon your long run may be up to 20 miles. If you’re training for a half it may be 10 miles, and 5 miles for a 10k. For a marathon, your first long run might only be 10 miles.
